Post by Petty43 »

Well hello! Long time boys! Hope you've all been well. I might have to build a new pc for the upcoming NASCAR Heat game. Get ready for some new faces soon, for i see this league is going to get big again. I hope to break out my dusty wheel and start wrenching on the 43!

Hey Petty. It's been awhile, hope things are well.

You're right, it may not be a bad idea to do some dusting, as we're paying close attention to the news surrounding Evolution.

We've typically ignored the various NASCAR sims that followed the original Heat, but we'll certainly consider breaking that trend for the new iteration, which is by the same group of developers. The features and screenshots seem promising. Look forward to checking it out in September.

Just over 16, not 17 until next August.

It sucks. They actually managed to remove features from NH 2000. Also online mode you can't even use your own setups or make it private (as far as I can tell). Avoid at the full $60 price. it will be down to $10-20 in no time

Well, today marks the release day of the new game.

Obviously, we're interested in learning what everyone thinks about Evolution, as it pertains to NHRL. Feel free to share thoughts, whether you're a member here, a forum reader / lurker, or just a general member of the NASCAR Heat community. As we hear insights and impressions, particularly as it relates to the online multiplayer aspect of Evolution, we'll get a better sense of how to proceed re: our league.

Based on mustang's early trial and review, maybe this process won't take too long. :meanlaughter

As a past NASCAR Heat racer back on NH2000 on PC and a current iRacer I can say these things;
1. The game lags excessively. I get better FPS running at higher settings in iRacing.
2. Original game had more features. (minus career mode)
3. No online setups
4. racing with a wheel and it might as well be a joystick it is so linear.
5. $60 is a steep price for a retextured game made 16 years ago; which BTW the source code they use is free as released by Hasbro.
6. Any sim racer worth his salt will get bored quickly.

Positives:
1. Net code is good but it was good back in 2000; no improvement
2. Fun online but will get old very quickly
3. Good for the casual PC gamer.

This was my steam review
Note: refund requested
i also could not find caution options for offline. No idea if there is any. Online I don't think there is also

Actually it's a whole new game engine, only thing they re-used from the original Heat is the engine sounds.

One thing to remember is the PC version is nothing more than a lazy port of the console version and as such the Console versions will most likely play better and be more enjoyable to play.

Bought it to give it a try. If it's really as bad as it sounds, might request a refund. Steam name is bmxtwins let's race :)

At best, it's very disappointing. It would not fit in with this league, or any league ever run in our community.

Long discussion already going on TMS...

+1.

No worries, we already have it planned for having a new Cup 2017 mod, and will have our modifieds out later this fall. Plus we have a line up of several tracks.. :)

Requested a refund. If it had proper wheel support and open setups online I would say it would work great for this league. Extremely disappointing, but it was very authentic to HEAT in many aspects. Fix the above and I think it could be a success.

Thanks for sharing the first impressions and initial reviews. You all saved me some effort this coming weekend, as far as testing goes. :meanlaughter

Overall, I'm quite surprised at the lack of attention to the PC version, but I suppose consoles are the target of the sales in this case. It looks like we'll need stay put and keep on monitoring, perhaps future updates and patches will bring the game closer to usability. Disappointing, for sure.

Let's make a mental note and designate this topic as an ongoing, open discussion, in case there are positive future developments in Evolution.

The next update is supposed to include hardcore mode and open setups online. Not sure about private rooms however

Yep, even the replay function has been updated. For online racing you can have your own personal setup.. Right now were in the process of creating templates for the game, from the original models. So once we have it fined tuned, you can have your own custom paint offline and or online. :) Yes, you can have your own custom paint for normal racing besides, the career mode.
