No restarts at the begining of races?
No restarts at the begining of races?
<FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>I was wondering if no longer having restarts at the begining of races would make things more interesting or not. What do you guys think about only having a restart for a grid problem and nothing else.</FONT><FORM method=post action="http://p199.ezboard.com/fnascarheatraci ... ic"><table border=0 cellpadding=3 cellspacing=0 width="55%"><tbody><tr><td><input type="radio" name="choice" value="1"><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>Yeah great idea much more interesting</FONT></td></tr><tr><td><input type="radio" name="choice" value="2"><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>That idea stinks, I like having restarts</FONT></td></tr></tbody></table>

Re: No restarts at the begining of races?
We need the restarts to learn what the fools are going to do. Sometimes it takes 3 for them to make up there mind.
Patience, patience and more patience. Weekin and weekout there are the same drivers trying to gain positions on the 1st lap only to be passed later.

Re: No restarts at the begining of races?
My 2 cents: I don't like the idea of restarts, just for the sole reason of luck. On the first 1-3 starts of any given race, i'll end up doing great and passing cars early... than someone will wreck, and after the last restart, I'll end up getting wrecked and no RS follows... just my thoughts
Re: No restarts at the begining of races?
yo doz.....if your passing cars before the restart, odds are, your not doing great.
i know the rule is 2 laps, but 95% of our restarts are before the first lap is even over, and you shouldent be passing multiple cars before 1 lap.
did it ever occur to you, that maybe the reason you are passing cars so much at the start is because the cars you are passing acually take lepage's "go easy early" moto seriously?
sometimes guys will get together and pm each other to pass on start or to look out for this and that, and there is some passing going on right away, but odds are when you blast off the start and fly past someone before they even get through the gears, you have only hurt your cause.
you can take my advice 2 ways - 1. figure i am just a jerk and you are gonna show me whats up next time and prove that your a hot shot or 2. be a little patient, and be pleasently suprised when you notice yourself getting better and better every week cause your not using up your car during the first 10% of a race.......
I know your fast, i have run with ya enough to know, so i hope you take this as advice and not an attack on you.
in order to finish first, you must first finish........
that 2 tips i have given to the CEM crew this week.....i am gonna have to start charging you guys, or maybe you can send me a shirt.........XL

Re: No restarts at the begining of races?
all that time just to make me look like an A$ hole...lol
the reason im passing cars is usually because of the small wrecks or guys getting loose and shooting up or down the track...or other mistakes made by drivers
and IMO i think i'm doing just fine with the "easy early" deal, because 95% of the time... I loose the draft on lap 1, just becuase i don't feel like wrecking anyone.... look at any replays you may have saved..and watch...
and the shirts are WAAAAYYY to da^m expensive to be giving them out.... $22 for a dang custome shirt...cmon now Duster!!!!

Re: No restarts at the begining of races?
well, i am basically busch, except for the last couple of weeks, so i dont have any replays to look at, or i would.
The draft hasent been an issue in the busch series since talladega on may 1st.
vegas, dover, hampshire, and pocono.....draft is way over rated, so even if you fall back 2 secs after lap one, you should still be able to catch anyone on the track if you have a good car and drive it right.

my 2 cents
you didn't think this topic was going to continue without me throwing two cents in.... did you? heck..... i may even drop a dime. Yes.... we need restarts. I agree with everything EFgordon said..... and I want to add to it.
the only way we could get away without having restarts (and i'm not suggesting we do this though) is to have everyone qualify each and every time we run out pre-race practice runs during happy hour. this would most likely put you beside the guy you will be starting beside during the race. then you could get a feel for what he is going to do on the restart. what i mean by that is..... is this driver (who is on the inside of ya) going to slide up the track in turn one (because he drives in to hot)? i can go on and on about this..... but i'll keep it short.
let's talk about passing cars early..... i've seen the CME racing guys (or what ever your team name is) usually driving like "crazy men" on lap one turn one. i've actually seen these guys cause alot of the restarts. and if you are passing alot of peeps.... it's probably because they don't want you near their car in fear of you wrecking them.... so they just let you pass.
I personally have let Dozer by a couple times early in the race..... just to get him away from me...... knowing that in a few laps..... he'd be in the fence and i would wave as i passed with a smile on my face.
we need restarts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i just have one....and he just turned 10, and i can only imagine what it would be like if he multiplied to 4 or 5.

Re: re:
After watching the start of the "big boys" ,, I often wonder if I could handle a start like that, 4-5 laps of side by side, bumper to bumper, and yet nothing more than a tire rub mark on a fender.
We usually have good starts, my experience has been that Busch had less restarts ( in years past ), but my point is that this is a game, without a little give and take, this game won't be fun. We as a group don't have the track time the big boys do. Some restarts are needed.
Everyone in both series needs to take the attitude that there is NO reason to pass in lap 1. Let them tires heat up, let people's nerves settle. If you have done your practice, and your setup is worth while, you will work your way to the front by being patient and keeping your car damage free.

Two cents from another old rabbit.
I prefer to have restarts because I ofter get in someone's wreck that none of my doing. I do feel for ya on your point, doz about being fine on all the restarts and then getting into someone's mess after the final one. That's happened to me on more than one occasion. There's the interesting factor you've referred to. LOL. I just get the car fixed and get what i can get, and it has proven worth while.
I too, have my list of cars that I may let by, etc., so I can just get a clean pass on them later after they've hit the wall, etc. There's others that sometimes I let by just because I don't want their fast butt hounding me in the mirror. Never force a bad position. "if you try to finish first with a 5th place car, you will be outside the top ten for sure" someone said that.........
on to the other topic at hand, oldest is 15. gonna start driving very shortly. I have 4 kids. 15 13 11 8. This can still though! lmao

Re: re:
Well,..its been my experience that on lap one of the start of most race tracks with the exseption of Daytona and Talladega that I endup getting run over because I was brakeing or lifting for the driver in front of me as to not run over them, and I get shoved into the car in front of me or spun out trying to hold my position on the track during that 1st lap and I have complaned about this before lots of times,..I'v even tried starting in the back of the pack,..and its also been my experience that the 1rt and 2nd restarts I was doing good,..and that 3rd restart took me out,..I'v complaned about it,.but what can ya do?? Just remember,...its just a game! and a lot of us dont have a lot of time for practice but we do the best we can with the time we have. Having a little more updated information would help those of us who dont keep up with it like we used to. Do we need the restarts? yes Some of us do! It dont matter to me!!! LETS JUST RACE!!!!!! and have FUN!!!! OK!
