Team Limit Caps

Post by TommyW 21 and 28 »

<FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>Most of you know we are going to be trying teams next season in NHRL and there will be official team standings. We are considering instiuting a team driver cap. Should this cap be a league wild cap meaning for the whole league or a series cap. If you vote for the 5th option please explain.</FONT><FORM method=post action="http://p199.ezboard.com/fnascarheatraci ... ic"><table border=0 cellpadding=3 cellspacing=0 width="55%"><tbody><tr><td><input type="radio" name="choice" value="1"><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>Series Cap of 4</FONT></td></tr><tr><td><input type="radio" name="choice" value="2"><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>Series Cap of 5</FONT></td></tr><tr><td><input type="radio" name="choice" value="3"><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>League Cap of 4</FONT></td></tr><tr><td><input type="radio" name="choice" value="4"><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>League Cap of 5</FONT></td></tr><tr><td><input type="radio" name="choice" value="5"><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>General Team Cap less than 4</FONT></td></tr></tbody></table>

Admins gotta be careful with this one. Lets say you have a league cap of 5 but a series cap of 4. What are you gonna do if all 5 are in the same series? Score the top 4? But then, by virtue of having 5 in the series, odds are better you'll have a better top 4 score.

I think you should have a team cap of 5 regardless of series, and score 'em wherever they race. Im forming a team of regular cup drivers (no one really takes the busch series seriously hehe ). I would like to run the busch series because its on Sat nite now but how do I get in? sigh, my brain is full. ill take a break now lol.

I don't get why it's so hard to understand. Why have any team cap? For the league or a series. Each team can submit who they want scored for each series before the season starts. It's should be up to the team who will be scored. And btw once a set of 4 are chosen for a series, they cannot be switched or changed race by race.

We have five guys that are in the busch series right now, and a few wanting trucks... Also a few are undecided about who wants to run cup or not.

Whatever you decide make your decisions soon, so team members can decide what series they want to run, how many members per series and actually how many teammates per whatever if it's league cap or series cap, or if they have to make teams smaller???

Thank you

First off I would like to say that I think the admins are doing a great job with all these polls. Now onto the matter at hand. Personally I think this team stuff is going to cause trouble. I am led to believe that all this team stuff is for is fun, and the points will have no influence on the individual point standings. What my problem with it is, I am seeing drivers already making the team thing more of a prioroty than actually concentrating on the races themselves. This was the case in the Busch Daytona race. Don't get me wrong, team unity is a good thing for pitting and such, but when it gets in the way of sensible driving and common courtisy, I see it as a potentially huge issue. Maybe we should have the admins pick the teams?
Lemmie just say that I am a current NHRL member whose name has been changed to "protect the innocent" I just see this team thing causing more trouble further down the road.
Thats my 2 cents. Just sumthin to think about.

Which is why we have initiated this poll.

I am actually quite surprised at the negative feeback it has generated. To me this really seems like common sense. The teams are supposed to be for fun. I do not think team mates should be able to block for one another or ditch a draft pack to go back and retrieve a friend.

Okay so you have 3 guys with 10 laps to go and your battling these 2 cars who are running together (could be teammates and might not) and you just can't get a good enough run to pass them.....mmmmmmm and there's another car back a second or two that you run well with (could be teammates and maybe not). Why not ditch the draft and go pick him up? I've seen it done alot the last few seasons and I never fathomed the thought that there was something wrong with it. Maybe someone is having difficulties with their restrictor plate program and this is their excuse for their lot in life.

block for one another? hell no, i am with ya 110% on that one. not blatent annoying blocking anyway. the same old rule you guys have always had should still cover this whole issue.

ditch a draft "PACK"??? that would be pretty dumb of anyone to ditch a whole pack to go pick up one person i would think. but if your dropping off a 2 or 3, and fixin to hook up with a 2 or 3 pack with teamates, then i would say you've given yourself a better chance. a better chance at what you ask?

winning of course.... winning

i think alot of these bridges will have to be crossed when we get to them.

i just hope that it dont turn into something lame like "hey, i might have won if you didnt drop off and pick up that pack, and now i finised 5th, booo hooo stuff"

i am under no obligation to help you are anyone, so as long as i dont intentionaly get in your way to slow you down, i should be able to run my own race and do whats best for me.

lol.... this is getting good!
i'd have to say..... if this were a actual (real life)driver's meeting.... there would be a bunch of fellas standing up... all in each other's faces.... with arms and hands flailing in the air as the spit goes flying!
makes for good reading in the morning too
but..... anyway..... i can't help but wonder if this whole "dropping off a draft pack to pick-up a teammate" was actually me... in that daytona race
After i foolishly walled myself twice trying to make the highline work (all by myself). i pitted and was just minding my own business (you know... driving... bored out of my mind... without anyone to draft with... because i wrecked and lost the draft =typical plate racing ...lol). but anyway...... the 71 car was behind me.... and asked to me to draft w/ him. i decided to draft w/ the 71.... but thought my teammates would probably dis-own me if they saw i helped another team (team NHRL). my car was fast..... and after fixing my minor damage was haulin the mail quite well. I pushed the #71 for numerous laps and we were making good time. the only crappy thing was.... i was a lap down... the 71 wasn't..... so.... i was pushing him just for fun. this was not going to help my finishing results.
the next thing i know.... i saw one of my teammates ahead of us all by his lonesome (w/ no draft help). as we passed him low..... i dropped off the draft of the #71 to help my teammate catchup and join our draft. this would have made it a 3 car draft which we all know is faster than 2 cars. the only problem with this idea was..... my teammates car was so damaged.... that i couldn't push him to catch the #71. the end result was 3 cars all running by themselves with no draft.
yet another Daytona mistake for me that evening.

soooo..... with that said.... is this what you are talking about Lepage? am I the example you are talking about? lol..... cuz i was just trying to make us faster. and weather i slowedto pick up my teammate or not...... i was still going to finish one lap down.

EK

oops..... this was supposed to be submitted under the "most controversial poll"

this post might need to go under the "substitute driver cap" poll. but.... it kind of fits here too:

i'd have to say..... i really want to race in busch and cup next season. Busch would be better for me because it's earlier. but i'm sure there will be numerous nights that i will be available to race in the cup series as well. So..... i'm thinking i will run both series again this next year.
my only issue is..... i will probably attend about as many races as i did the past 2 seasons for cup.
(this attendance record sucks ... but i will like to take this opportunity to bragg a bit >>> I only made it to 14 of the 25 Cup races this season... and I won 7 of them! pretty sweet huh?) ok done bragging and back to the post:
now.... i'm just curious on if i will be able to be scored as a team LOD member when i do show for the events?
or..... will the team members that are scored be predetermined at the start of the season?
or...... if the team cars that are scored are predetermined at season start..... could I, for example, jump in the #51 LOD car of Reef (if his car is a scored car) and drive that car to be scored in an event that i'm planning to attend. and Reef drive my "unscored" car. (assuming that i think i could do well in that event).
i don't know.... and am just trying to make the team thing work out for me and team LOD. other wise.... it might be better for me to drop off team LOD and rejoin the ranks of the common "independent" drives again.
nothing against team LOD..... i'm just thinking that it wouldn't be fair to the team if the cars that are scored are predetermined..... and i end up missing 1/3 of the races.

although i am not the official spokesman for LOD, i can assure you that this particular teamate does not care about that junk

i am way too focused on winning or doing well on my own. My goal is to compete for a title, if i can

Whats the team stuff about? practice, last minute PM race strategy and tips, maybe a setup or two swap testing, Cool looking cars, and someone to draft with....ect....

i dont have a clue what even any points things would be like, and i am positive that it will be like the 25th most important thing on my mind on race day.

talking trash after any one particular race is way higher on the list for me.....

now that sounds like fun....

another reason i really want to use ventrillo in 2006. although i figured me driving 1/2 inch away from the wall, and losing about 3 secs per lap might have been a sign that all was not well with the #7 car, i probably should of typed something in.

the problem is i cant type and race. its too hard. it took me almost 2 full laps to type in "throw a rope"......

and even that got me yelled at!

so i am self banning myself from all typing on the track that is not required by the league....

Re: lol.... this is getting good!

I've already have banned myself from typing in any races in the future!!!! (except for the usual pitting exiting pits which are programmed into my wheel) As for ventrillo goes I plan on using that for all future Plate Tracks. The only thing about ventrillo during other types of races, if it gets really talkative on there it can mess up your concentration.. But besides that, I also plan on using it. My mic kicked the bucket again last week.. Why I have no clue? Does anyone know of a good brand to buy??

Eagle, I've been thinking along those same lines myself!! It might be better for me to drop back to common independent driver also! Due to all the extensive traveling I do, due to work.

So why don't I just make this offical. I'm back to independent driver staus!!!

well........

call me crazy or whatever....

but wouldent the fact that your schedule was tight, and you might not be around as much as you wanted and stuff, make it a good thing to have teamates around that could get you up to speed in a short period of time, keep you in the loop, and help with those kinds of things?

well.... EF and LOD members. if you can deal with me (my saturday night drinking habbits, my crazy women and up and down love life, my parties, and my usual 10 or so missed races) ... i will be glad to stay a member of LOD. I'm on average of bringing the team 6.5 wins per season in Cup... and I can usually score a top 5 at my weaker tracks too. But.... if ya find a more regular guy that you would like to use as a scored driver for "team points" i won't be upset.
otherwise..... i will probably do my usual which is:
-miss daytona (because i will probably be at that race come Feb)
-drive like crazy to win as many as i can
-use any advantage i think might make me win (to include fuel and/or tire runs)
-run TommyW's doors off his new #70 car everytime he's near me
-beat efgordon at IRP this season (or wreck him trying...lol)
-miss numerous races (unless i find a chick that doesn't want to go out on saturday nights)
-contend for a top 5 finish in the Cup standings (by season's end)
-but... not win a championship (due to missed events)
-lobby to have cup moved to sundays in 2007 (so I can finally win a NHRL championship)
