I mentioned this as a reply to another post, but apparently no one noticed or cared. Why don't we do some testing with this new dedicated server to see how many drivers we can support in a fat server race. Fat servers are awesome because you can see everything that's going on with everybody's car...for instance, when someone spins out, you actually see them get loose and go around and you know where they and which direction they're probably going instead seeing a car start to ghost and move erratically up and down the racetrack not really knowing where they're going to end up and when. We could start with a few drivers during the week or something, to see if it will run fat at all, and then maybe try to get a full field on a Friday night that the Busch drivers have off. Nothing big, just a few short races to see what we're dealing with. I've supported at least 12 drivers that I can remember on a fat server running on my old connection, which was rated at 256k upload. From what I'm being told, this server has an upload of 1200k, so in theory, we should be able to run all of our drivers on fat with no problems.
Or maybe you're all just afraid of change... is that it? Are you all a bunch of liberal commy fascists? Huh? Must be democrats... damn pinko tree-huggers...LOL

Here's a suggestion
Re: Here's a suggestion
I'm with ya Scroo. Fat is so much more realistic. You have more time to react when you see it coming. I'm all for testing it.

FAT
I would participate in a fat server test . I think it's hillarious when you see someones right front tire rolling around for a lap or two after a racer hit's the wall I also remember seeing a driver blow his engine, right in front of me, while racing on a fat server, and it was cool to see the flames and smoke . I wonder if we would be able to see another teams pit crew running around their cars as well? that would be cool too . Seeing smoke up ahead is also some thing that would help an oncomming car determine wheather he needs to lift off the throttle to prepare for evasive actions . One way that it might suck is this>>> there has been times (on thin servers) when I have wrecked in a race. the host restarted the race.... but my skid marks were still in the corner that i spun in...... only this time.... the skid marks that i was seeing, seemed to be floating in the air.... which was very distracting to me. on a thin server.... I'm sure I was the only driver seeing those "floating skidmarks" .... but on Fat..... I wonder if we will see all the driver's skidmarks from the entire race? As long as they (the skid marks) are on the track surface..... that would be cool
........ the only snag, with the Fat servers, that i've ran into is this>>> if a driver has "dail up" or a "sub-par" connection..... their car(s) appear to bounce as they drive around the track ...... but.... maybe the bouncing that I've seen in the past was caused by the host having a slow upload speed on his connection. still..... with all that said...... I would still be interested in testing it (the Fat Server)

Re: FAT
Ok, we had some problems trying to do "fat" testing Friday night, but I was able to set up a fat dedicated server from my own pc tonight, so I know it's possible...just need to figure out what we're doing wrong. I'll see if I can get it worked out during the week hopefully, and then maybe we can try again after a race next weekend. I know this is a pain in the a$$, but if we ever get it working good, I think it will be a great thing for the league.
